Labouchere Tricks
Control the first number

In the labouchere system, the first number in your line tracks how quickly your losses will increase. So having a 1 or a 3 at the beginning of the line can greatly effect how the line will evolve. For example we can have the two lines:-

1 2 2 2

and

3 2 2

Both have the same Coup value of 7 units but after a series of losses the second line is much more in danger of getting out of hand. After just a short run of 3 consective losses our lines look like:-

1 2 2 2 3 4 5

and

3 2 2 5 8 11

After just 3 losses, in our first line our next bet is only 6 units but in our second line we face a 14 unit bet.

This is why you should be aware of the multiplier effects of having larger numbers at the beginning of the line. If you want to reduce this risk and willing to play a longer labouchere line, then a good manouvere is to blow up the first number into smaller units. As an example, if we have the line:-

3 2 2

we could blow up the 3 into smaller numbers like

1 1 1 2 2

This line has the same net profit value after a coup and will take longer to complete but will dramatically reduce you session volatility. After 3 losses it would only look like:-

1 1 1 2 2 3 4 5

Which is still easy to handle. A good conservative rule is to always blow up your first number into 1s.

Losses are a natural part of the game, the trick to make sure you never let the losses strike too deep a hit into your bankroll. Be patient and you will complete the line.

Good Luck
